Which One Will You Take: $5 Note or $100 Note
Published June 17th, 2007 in Success, Life.I’ve got a $5 note and a $100 note in my hands, which one will you take? It’s interesting that while most people responded $100, many friends, especially those comparatively more educated, approached the question with more questions, such as, is there any tricks / would there be any penalty / the answer must not be as simple as it seems, right…
One of the morals of this story is that we do then to think too much and over-analyze in some occasions… The answer, indeed, was pretty straightforward and simple. While $5 is obviously not the right answer, neither is $100. The answer is: Both! Options, in many cases, are actually not necessarily mutually exclusive and our “either or” mentality could be very limiting. So, which one would you choose, wealth or health? Health? No, not good enough, both – who said that we can’t be both wealthy and healthy? Hm, which one would you choose, be rich or be nice? This time, you know the answer, right? Who said that we can’t be both rich while be exceptionally nice and generous and kind? I’ve got a $5 note and a $100 note in my hands, which one will you take? “which one would you choose, wealth or health?” - the way you formulated the question doesn’t (psychologically) leave you the option to answer “both”. “or” is a coordinating conjunction that limits your choice to only one option. Since the question already suggests that you should choose only one (”which ONE”) of those two options, chances are that nobody will answer “both”.
“between wealth and health, which one would you choose?” - I think this is a bit better.
Anyhow, I really enjoyed reading the post (altough I already knew these things). Good job!
Thanks for your comment. Nevermind the lingusitic, but I guess you get the idea…
Of course I got the idea.
