Nice To Have

wrong-way-ok_03.jpg

It is indeed pretty exciting for a newbie like me to build a website brick by brick from scratch.  I’ve basically putting in much of my leisure time and well, some sleeping time in this “project” these two weeks, starting from researching on the web, reading books and learning from other blogs/websites/chat-rooms, to trying out different platforms, finding the hosting site, to actually building the site, writing the contents and finding every plug-ins and widgets you now see or not see (yet) on this site.

It’s simply thrilling for me when more and more functions and contents are added and the site begins to take form.

I become so busy in trying to make this place a little bit better.  Say, sometimes I will (quite unknowingly) spend two hours or more searching for and installing a particular plugin for a function that I saw in another website. (And sometimes failed to do so, mostly due to technical knowledge that is beyond my comprehension for the time being…)

Then, it strikes me that the many functions that I tried so hard to pull together are nice to have (and in other words, not necessary).  I got lost in the course, I forgot that the most important was always, the content - without concrete content all the glamorous functions serve no purpose.

And I guess this is also true in our daily life.  For too many times we are so busy (sometimes obsessed) with the tasks in hand that we don’t even bother to ask whether that is the best way to perform it, or, more fundamentally, whether the task is necessary at all.  We can loss focus very easily.  We can simply forget the big picture and get lost in the details and distractions.

Indeed, you have done a lot of spade work to get this blog going. And in so short a time…about two months? For most people, two months won’t see so many elements on the blog pages and everything is so neatly arranged in the right place and all that! In fact, those people will still be struggling to put things together.

I spent about a couple of hours going through this amazing blog literally from head to toe. I can’t help it because I was so intrigued by your blog that’s so new and yet looks like it’s so professionally done. It’s a wonder. It’s simply amazing.

One can hardly find fault with the writing and thoughts behind those words. If I’m asked about this blog and its owner, I would say that this is not a newbie blog.

The choice of widgets, banners, and affiliate programs is well thought out. The time spent to gather all these items would be beyond most bloggers. It’s really energy sapping. Every nook and corner in this blog is so well organized. But you did it and that’s why it’s amazing.

I’ve visited many blogs - from crappy ones to well-designed sites - and I know something is unique when I see one. Shine With Grace surely beats the hell out of many more established blogs, if I may say so. Given another two months, it will be interesting to see how further up the stratosphere you have progressed.

It’s a revelation to have discovered your blog. Cheers!

    Hi Markk,

I’m not sure what to say. Thank you, for your very detailed analysis, appreciation and expectations.

I kind of know that the Shine With Grace now looks quite good - and I do think the design template helps alot. I fell for it the time I saw it. As for the rest, I think the best description would be I am doing what feels right. And of course, I do put in the time and effort, which is much more than I had expected at the very beginning. And BTW, I still having crack the code of your original question - and I am always afraid that I missed some blogging norm that everybody knows…

Anyhow, nice meeting you Markk, and many others along the way. Amazing indeed.
