Gossip You

~ Chinese Proverb

This is what I believe: 

1. If you don’t like other people talking at your back, don’t talk at other’s back.    
2. Stay away from the gossipy. 
3. No trust or real friendship could be built based on gossips.

But, once in awhile you just can’t avoid bumping into one.  It could be annoying because:

• When they fill you with all the juicy details and comments of another human being, you know that you have been / will be the vitim in some other occasions. 
• No matter how colourful their descriptions are, the conversation is dreary with no substance.  
• All the questions they asked were for gathering information for further gossiping. 
• They don’t really care about you.  They only care about the juicy details - the currency for exchange in the world of the gossipy.  

If you so unfortunately were confronted by one, my two cents’ worth would be:

• Smile politely, as always 
• Make no comments
• Give no details
• Change the topic tactfully - the world is full of interesting and wonderful things for us to talk about
• Talk with others
• Excuse yourself for awhile
• Make it clear that you are not interested in talking about the topic, in a nice but firm way, when they ignore the signs and carry on
• Don’t care about what they think and what they are going to say - it just reflect badly on them, not you
• Understand that friends who care about you won’t listen to what the gossipy say; people don’t care about you just do not matter any way 
• You can always clarify in other occasions, if necessary
