I Just Pretend I don’t Care

The more we care about a person, a position, an outcome, a result, the more we pretend we don’t care.
The fox and the grapes fable may not only apply to situations in which we have failed in getting what we want. It may also apply to situations in which we are afraid that we don’t get what we want.
We know it hurts - and therefore we deny that we want it in first place.
The fox and grapes fable is named the “psychological immune system” by psychologists, which safeguards us from being miserable even we don’t get what we want…
In his talk, “Why are we happy, why aren’t we happy”, Psychologist Dan Gilbert argues that the “synthetic happiness” we get (even we don’t get what we want) is as real as the happiness we feel when we get what we want…
