Film On Saturday - Love Is Actually All Around: Films By Richard Curtis (Notting Hill, Love Actually, Four Weddings And A Funeral)
Published August 11th, 2007 in Humor, Happiness, Love, Friendship, Films.Richard Curtis is my favourite screenplay writer. Whenever feeling out of sorts I would go back to his films and without failing I gain some comfort feelings.
His work is always filled with lots of love, and friendship and humanity. Some may think that his films are unrealistic - such as the most unsuccessful book store owner marrying the most famous Hollywood star, and a house-keeping girl falling in love with the president of a country… Those were the plots - the dreams and all the dream-like characters (And isn’t it one of the reasons why we go to cinema at first place, to dream?). Nevertheless, what touches the audiences is always the very basic human feelings he depicts so sensitively and observantly - and those feelings are shared by stars, and ordinary people.
BTW, can I not mention his very witty scripts? He’s really good.
Superb scenes from:
Love Actually
Without hope or any agenda, I tell you the truth…
Funniest bit with Hugh Grant dancing…
Notting Hill
A sweet happy ending after all the hiccups…
It never fails to make me laugh…
Four Wedding And A Funeral
The lines are really, well, unpredictable…
Bonus: The Making of Love Actually

Ben Elton and Richard Curtis wrote one of my all time favorite BBC series: Blackadder. I have seen every episode hundreds of times. It is just one of those things I could never get enough of.
Check it out if you have the chance. If you do, start with series 2 or 3, then work your way into all of the others.
I am glad you can introduce that body of work to people that might otherwise not know about it at all.

Hi Takuin,
Thanks! I just came across Blackadder when researching for the post. Will definitely check it out. Trust your choice.
