Shine With Grace

I met with this architect friend last week, discussing possible partnership opportunities.  Reached an understanding pretty quick and smoothly, our topic shifted to business development, art, life, religion…  An enlightening encounter.

Being a yoga practitioner myself, I asked this buddhist architect friend about meditation - and how he quiets his mind.  And he said,

Can we really control ourselves?

Can you control your thoughts in the next 10 seconds?

We have less control of ourselves than we think we have, and therefore we have to practice.

Every year, he will go on a retreat for 7 - 14 days. 

Mostly on the last day of my retreat, I only need to sleep for one hour, and eat very little.  The reason why is what drains our energy most is not our physical activity, but what’s going on in our heads.  When we don’t have so many chaotic thoughts going on in our mind, we don’t feel so tired.

I have been pondering his words since our meeting. 

It so happened that there was a situation I didn’t quite know how to handle.  And his words worked like an antidote for me, at least relieved much of my headache. 

I have been thinking too much, and stressed myself out.  I may not be able to handle it perfectly, but now I choose to face it with all honesty.

Then today I thought of this song, a very old song in Chinese, re-arranged recently and now performed by Anthony Wong.  It’s called “The Unforgettable You”.  Hm, why can’t I shake my mind off you?  May be we really can’t quite control our mind.

A beautiful song.  And, isn’t it a blessing afterall if on earth there is a person we miss so much?
