What is the cornerstone of all relationships?

I would say TRUST - and it works both ways: to be trust-worthy and to trust.

Be trust-worthy

This is obvious.  We all like to relate with trust-worthy people.  We like people who keep their promises and those with high integrity.  We like to do business with those who deliver as agreed.  We open up ourselves to those who can keep a secret.

To trust

Do you find it difficult trusting others? 

The thing is, if you find it particularly hard to trust others, chances are people would also find it hard to trust you, for you would very possibly behave defensively, and tend to guard yourself off and seldom disclose your true feelings.

Remember, it always works both ways.

And, why do you find it hard to trust others?  Past unpleasant experience?  Maybe.

Why you don’t trust others?  It’s because you don’t really trust yourself.  If you know that you can handle it even though others screw up, if you are unstoppable, the trust issue doesn’t matter.

I don’t have much issue in trusting others, but when I first heard T. Harv Eker talked about this in a seminar, my mind was blown away.  How true.  It all starts from ourselves! 

It doesn’t mean that we need to pour our heart out to whoever we bump into, we still have to be street smart.  Just that, it’s a great reminder that we don’t need to lead our lives in a constant defensive mode, and we can have a peaceful mind.  When we trust ourselves, our ability, our character, we act confidently.  And, more importantly, like attracts like.  when we trust ourselves, when we uphold high integrity, we attract like-minded people to help us out along the way.
